These quick, fun and easy ankle socks are knitted from the top down: first the 1x1 cuff is knitted in the round, then half of the stitches are put on hold while the heel flap and turn are worked flat. Stitches are then picked up for the gusset and worked in the round again, along with a cheerful cabled instep pattern continuing down to the toe, which is worked in stockinette with shaping decreases and finished with Kitchener stitch grafting.

YARN – Any 4ply/fingering weight yarn (7-8 sts in 1”/2.5cm). Sample is shown in West Yorkshire Spinners Signature 4ply (437yds/400m for 100g) in shade Spearmint 309

YARDAGE – Hugely depends on size! Between 140yds and 250yds. Available sizes: S, M, L

NEEDLES – DPNs or short circulars (9 inches), 2.5mm (1.5US). 2.25mm (1 US) recommended for loose knitters. If using circulars, 2 DPNs will also be needed for heel and toe

NOTIONS – 3 stitch markers, 2 cable needles or spare DPNs

Please make sure to download version 2 with just a couple of small tweaks (improved readability in Pro Tip boxes, small change in Gusset section)!
