The yarn is a series of dyed top in silk/Merino from two well-known dyers, Abstract Fiber in Oregon and RedFish DyeWorks in southern California. I purchased the braids at weaving and spinning conferences without expecting that they would be used together. I like this blend of wool (for warmth and softness) and silk (for strength, shine, and drape). I divided the braids by color into darks and lights and spun and plied them in as close to a progression of colors as I could get, plying light to light, medium to medium, and dark to dark.

Fiber Abstract Fiber 50% silk/50% Merino wool top, one 4 oz braid each in mango and mousse; RedFish DyeWorks 50% silk/50% Merino wool top, two 4 oz braids each in lot 1 and lot 10.

Yarn 2-ply; 2,300 yd; 1,800 ypp; 18 wpi; fingering weight.

Needles U.S. size 2.5 (3 mm). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Markers; tapestry needle.

Gauge 24 sts and 33 rows = 4” in lace patt.

Finished Size 36” tall at center back point and 180” along lower edge (45” along each quadrant).

Note This shawl can be worked to any length or until your yarn runs out. Work the Leaf chart as many times as desired, then transition to the Sparse Leaf charts (or omit them completely and work the garter-stitch border). Leaves can be added or removed as desired instead of working the Sparse Leaf charts.
