In the Land of Sweets, more is more! Bon bons, peppermint sticks, and chocolate drops are just the beginning. The dances that make up this section of The Nutcracker are the most colourful and exciting of the whole ballet, and the Sugar Plum Fairy is the indulgent queen of this confectionery kingdom. For devoted knitters, yarn is sweeter than candy, and it’s just as difficult to restrain ourselves when faced with a world of choice. Who hasn’t stood in a yarn shop staring at piles of skeins in every colour of the rainbow, eyes shining like a child in a sweet shop?

The Land of Sweets Cowl was designed to showcase the knitter’s version of this wonderland…a perfect use for the mini skeins from one of the many delicious yarn Advent calendars around at this time of year. It’s also a brilliant way to use up the lovely leftovers that every avid knitter has stashed away. Stripes, simple lace, and an irrepressible sense of fun are at the heart of this cosy cowl, which will brighten up even the greyest winter day.

Immerse yourself in the beauty and excitement of the holiday season with our very special Knitvent 2017 collection.

The unmistakable strains of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker conjures up dreamy images and heartfelt emotion for children and adults alike: the sparkle of the Sugar Plum Fairy, the boundless energy of the gallant Nutcracker, Clara’s wistful journey and final triumph. With so much romance and joy, I knew that this beloved holiday ballet was the perfect inspiration for Knitvent this year. Each of the six mystery patterns this season draw from the spirit of the Nutcracker’s enchanted dreamworld, dancing between the elegant beauty of a prima ballerina and the wide-eyed wonder of a child lost in the Land of Sweets.

Every year, the Curious Handmade community gathers together to celebrate Knitvent: a lovely mix between an advent calendar and a mystery knit along. Each week a surprise accessory pattern will appear in your Ravelry library. Each pattern has been designed to be ideal for gifting, but don’t forget to be good to yourself, too!

Along with the six designs, Knitvent brings with it a warm and bubbly community of warm-hearted knitters who love to share the anticipation, admire each other’s work, and offer a helping hand wherever it’s needed. We’ll have chatter and KALs and prizes and a very warm sense of holiday magic to make our needles fly.
