Large Pumpkin
Bring the ultimate cozy autumn vibes into your home with this Pumpkin Knitting Pattern! Perfect for Halloween, Thanksgiving, or adding a beautiful rustic touch to your seasonal mantle, shelf, and tabletop decor.
Detailed, beginner-friendly tutorial written in standard English (US terms) with clear, row-by-row instructions.
TWO KNITTING METHODS INCLUDED:
- Worked Flat (Turning Rows): Knitted back and forth on two straight needles (sewing at the end is required).
- Worked In The Round (Circular Knitting): Knitted seamlessly on circular or double-pointed needles (no sewing required).
SIZES & YARN REQUIREMENTS:
In fact, you can use absolutely any yarn that you like for this project! The most important thing is to choose the correct needle size. To ensure that your knitted fabric is dense enough and the fiberfill stuffing won’t peek through, I highly recommend using needles that are 1–2 sizes smaller than the size suggested on the yarn label.
Depending on the yarn weight you choose, you can easily create anything from a cute little decorative pumpkin to a large, cozy pumpkin pillow using the SAME single instruction:
• Small Pumpkin (Sport Weight)
- Size: Approx. 6” (15 cm) diameter / 4” (10 cm) height.
- Yarn: approx. 87-104 yds / 25-30g (body), approx. 17 yds / 5g (stem).
- Suggested option: Yarn (YarnArt Jeans). Needles: US 1 (2.25 mm).
• Medium Pumpkin (Aran/Worsted Weight)
- Size: Approx. 10” (25 cm) diameter / 6” (15 cm) height.
- Yarn: approx.120-130 yds / 65-70g (body), 18 yds / 10g (stem).
- Suggested option: Red Heart Super Saver (Solid). Needles: US 6 (4.0 mm).
• Large Pumpkin (Bulky/Super Bulky Weight)
- Size: Approx. 14” (35 cm) diameter / 7” (18 cm) height.
- Yarn: approx.103-106 yds / 165-170g (body), 10 yds / 15g (stem).
- Suggested option: Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick & Quick. Needles: US 10 (6.0 mm).
• Yarn colors: Any lovely shades of orange, yellow, white, gray, beige, or brown for the pumpkin body. Green or brown shades for the stem.
MATERIALS & TOOLS NEEDED:
• Knitting needles: A pair of straight needles OR circular needles matching your chosen yarn size
• Fiber filling: Approx. 70 to 500 grams depending on the chosen pumpkin size.
• Stitch marker: Required only if you choose the circular knitting method in the round.
• Other tools: Needle for sewing the pumpkin, and a tapestry needle to sculpt the realistic pumpkin ribs.
Note on tapestry needle length: It should be at least 5 inches (12.5 cm) long. For the bulky yarn pumpkin, I highly recommend using a 7-inch (18 cm) long needle, although a shorter needle will do as well.
• Sewing pins and scissors.
