Pattern No. 2 in the Latvian Fusion Sock Club.

The zigzag lines of the wavy Latvian stitch pattern known as “Mara” is one of the most ancient of geometric designs, found on Stone Age ceramics and the earliest weavings.

Here it is used with a yarn of varying mauve hues to suggest a basket design, a basket filled with blooms of lavender.

Use a self-striping yarn for the contrast colour and you will also achieve a sock with bands of varying colours. Or change the colours yourself as you work each pattern band.
