This pillow cover is made using a mosaic stitch. There are no colour changes within the working rows, the colour pattern is made by slipping the stitches of one colour, while knitting the stitches of the other.

All stitches are slipped purl wise, with the yarn held on the wrong side while slipping. For right side rows, the yarn is held in back as stitches are slipped, for wrong side rows, the yarn is held in front.

Written instructions are included along with a chart. Some find using a chart much easier, but others prefer written instructions, so both have been included.

Mosaic patterns work best with contrasting colours. If the colours are too close together in value, the pattern will not be as obvious in the finished piece. It’s best to have a light colour and a dark colour as is used in the example shown.

This pattern was written with the back and front having the same colour pattern, but you can choose to make one side be the reverse of the other. To reverse your colours, have Col A be light and Col B be dark for one side of the cover, and then have Col A be dark and Col B be light for the other side. The colours have been reversed on the cover in the pattern example and photos.
