Leaf Hat
The Leaf Hat is a practical yet whimsical design that will keep your (or your loved ones’) ears warm while looking cute and playful. You can customize the number of leaves on your hat, or even add ties to ensure it stays securely in place!
The Leaf Hat was born because I was looking for a hat pattern that would keep my little ones ears warm from the cold winds and I could not find what I was looking for. A lot of hats don’t seem to cover the ears enough. This one does!
Sizes
The Leaf Hat comes in 5 sizes:
- Newborn (0-3 months, about 33-38cm)
- Baby (3-12 months, about 38-44cm)
- Small Kid (1-4 Years, about 46-52cm)
- Kid/Small Adult (from about 5 years, about 52-54cm)
- Large Adult (about 55-59cm)
For the two smaller sizes you will need one skein of yarn, the other versions need slightly more ( up to two skeins). But that also depends if you are going to knit a uni coloured hat or one with accent colour, with long i-cords and leaves or plain.
Yarn
I made the hats you see in the photos with drops Lima (50g/100m) and used 4mm dpns.
Languages
The pattern is currently available in English. A German translation is in progress and will be released soon.
Techniques used
In this pattern you will find
- Wrap & turn short rows
- Decreases like k2tog and ssk
- Increases like make one left (m1l) and yo
- I-cord
- knit and purl stiches
but most of the techniques are explained in the pattern.
So if you have some experience with knitting but maybe have never attempted one of the stitches or techniques in the pattern, this might still be doable for you.
If you have any difficulties or think you might have found a mistake please feel free to contact me.
