LEAFY MITTS:    (other patterns available separately)
These mitts are designed to be knit sideways.  The short row elements create simple leaves in an Art Deco style.

Additional Information at the end of the pattern for creating a cowl using the body of this pattern.

What you are making. These mitts are designed to be knit sideways and then a short row thumb is added on.  They are up-sized by adding a few garter rows at the start, middle and end. This is noted in the pattern. On the LAST page is some additional information using the short rows section repeated to make into a scarf or cowl. The design is part of a 3-piece set that uses 2 hanks of yarn to make 3 pieces (other patterns sold separately). This should work with no problem for the XS/S mitts and the M/L mitts.  I have not tested it for the XL mitts.

The short rows create the interesting design, while garter makes these mitts fitted and snug. It is up-sized by adding a few garter rows at the start, middle and end.  These places do not interfere with or impede the overall design. The design is part of a 3-piece set that uses 2 hanks of yarn to make 3 pieces (other patterns sold separately).

Yarn Choices:  On the mitts I switched the Main & Contrast Colors for each one.  This was partly because I like to see different combinations and so the yarn would distribute well into other projects using a balanced amount of yarn. However, in one mitt, the yarn use is about even (MC & CC) not matter how the colors are used.

NEEDLES & GAUGE:
The pattern works with ANY type/format needles (it is not worked in the round). I like using rounds with a shorter cable, but honestly, I use is whatever I have handy at the time. They use US 06’s/4.0mm in GARTER STITCH & the short row pattern, before BLOCKING.
GAUGE 22 sts to 4” and 44 Rows to 4” … NOTE, I did not block these mitts. They are meant to have lots of stretch, I dry them flat.

SIZES:
This Mitts are knit in GARTER.  It will look TINY and stretch a ton; lots of negative ease.  The fit should be short & snug.

Something that fits with a jacket, and easily pops in your pocket.  Chances are every size might fit you if you have an average sized hand. Very small hands and larger hands may also fit most sizes well too.

XS/S -  knitted piece is 3” wide & 8” tall.  Fits my hand that is 7” around at the knuckles comfortably.

M/L -  knitted piece is 3 ¼” wide & 8” tall.  ALSO fits my hand that is 7” around at the knuckles comfortably, a little looser.

XL -     knitted piece is 3 ½ ” wide & 8” tall.  ALSO fits a hand that is 8” around at the knuckles comfortably.

NOTIONS:      A yarn sewing needle for joining.  Markers if desired.  Scrap yarn for Provisional Cast On.
