The Léon Bonnard pattern uses heavily detailed, textured lace to evoke the gothic architecture of old Paris. The design is inspired and named for a red-headed boy rescued from the streets of Paris by the Duke of Avon in the Georgette Heyer novel These Old Shades.

The hat is worked in worsted weight yarn from the bottom up. Additional rows can be knitted at the beginning to make the hat a little slouchier.

Every row of the hat is patterned, making this an interesting knit. As the piece is knitted in the round, all rows are right side, making the seemingly complex design suitable for an intermediate knitter.

The pattern is charted and has full written instructions.

This hat can be knitted with half a skein (100g) of yarns with a yardage of 200m/220yards per 100g, when worked at the listed gauge. Recommended yarns include Cleckheaton 8-ply, the Cascade 220 series and Bendigo Woollen Mills Luxury 8-ply.
