This hat and scarf set will fit an average 5 year old with gauge given. For larger sizes, use a larger hook. For smaller sizes, use a smaller hook. You will need 1 skein each of 3 different colors for the size given. I used Red Heart Super Saver in Black, Shocking Pink, and Warm Brown.

I would recommend some experience with frequent color changes before you try this pattern. The stitches are all simple sc and dc stitches, but with the color changes, I would rate this as an intermediate pattern.
