There was a time when I thought of “lace” only as the awful, scratchy, synthetic trim on ladies’ underwear. That was until I discovered knitted lace – and that discovery changed my life! Now, lace is my favorite kind of knitting; I find it relaxing as well as rewarding. It was only a matter of time before I got the urge to design some lace pieces of my own!

These three cowls comprise a progressive course in lace knitting. The first cowl in the series uses a very easy lace pattern; the subsequent designs increase in difficulty and add new elements and/or techniques. However, they are all within the ability of an intermediate knitter or even an adventurous beginner. All three designs are in chart form only, since the ability to read charts is an important aspect of lace knitting. Although these are relatively quick projects, they will provide you with the basic skills for lace knitting and give you confidence to tackle larger, more complex designs.
