This is a simple earwarmer/headband and cowl recipe I created for my family so we stay nice and warm on hikes. The cowl size can easily be worn as a hat, or pulled up over your face to keep out the chill.The cowl is twice as wide as the headband. Instructions are provided for fingering weight and DK / Worsted weight.

Headband: 4” x 18” (10 cm x 46 cm)
Cowl: 8” x 19.5” (20 cm x 50 cm)

Fingering weight headband: 18-23 g 83-107 yd / 76-98 m
Fingering weight cowl: 35-45 g 162-208 yd / 148-190 m

DK / Worsted weight headband: 35-45 g 86-110 yd / 79-100 m
Dk / Worsted weight cowl: 70-75 g 172-184 yd / 157-168 m

GAUGE:
Fingering: 24 stitches = 4” (10 cm) in garter stitch (size 2.5 3.0 mm needle)
DK / Worsted: 19 stitches = 4” (10 cm) in garter stitch (size 5 3.75 mm needle)

This pattern uses a provisional cast-on, integrated icord trim, and a 3-needle bind-off.
