LIDDEN – story; Devonian

Lidden are gloves are knit in the round, featuring a pop of colour on the cuff with 2 colour corrugated ribbing and Estonian vikkel braids. The body of the gloves feature a twisted stitch pattern the runs up the middle and ring fingers.

Inspired by the geometric shapes of decorative brickwork and carving through England and Scandinavia, these gloves tell a story of traveling and movement. Lidden is the Devonian word for story and these gloves have a lot to say with traveling stitches, braids and two coloured rib.

PATTERN NOTES
• These gloves feature a cuff made of 2 colour corrugated rib and vikkel lateral braids followed by a traveling stitch pattern called a vikkel in Estonian. The traveling stitches create peaks with a stripe that extended up the middle to the finger.
• The glove is knit in the round from the cuff up with stitches divided for the fingers.
• The thumb is created by knitting select stitches in waste yarn in a contrasting colour. These are then picked up once the main part of the glove and other fingers are complete. Additional stitches are picked up either side of the thumb to close gaps.
• Fingers and thumbs can be elongated to knitter’s preference.
