Did you know that the toy called “Lite-Brite” was first marketed back in 1967? I didn’t. I thought it was a toy that was popular in the ‘80s and ‘90s. The Lite-Brite was also named as on of the top 100 most popular toys by TIME Magazine in 2011. After I had finished knitting this beanie, my husband looked over and said that it reminded him of the Lite-Brite toys we had while growing up. Thus the name “Light Bright” was decided upon.

Light Bright is written in such a way that each beanie knit will be unique and different, just like each design with the Lite-Brite was unique to each child.

Size: 1 (2, 3, 4, 5) - Intended to be worn with 4-6 in. / 10-15 cm of negative ease. When choosing a size, use the finished dimensions to choose a size that is 4-6 in. /10-15 cm smaller
than the circumference of the wearer’s head. Sample measures 18 in. / 45.5 cm and is worn on a head with a circumference of 23 in. / 58.5 cm.

Finished Dimensions: 14 (16, 18, 20, 22) in. / 35.5 (40.5, 45.75, 51, 56) cm circumference and 6.5 (8, 8, 8, 9) in. / 16.5 (20, 20, 20, 23) cm height.

Recommended Yarn: Twisty Desert Dames Boujee Merino, worsted weight, 185 yds / 170 m, 100 g, 1 (1, 1, 1, 2) skein(s). (Twisty Desert Dames is the in-house dyer of Grandma’s Spinning Wheel in Tucson, Arizona). OOAK - no named colorway. I recommend a solid color base with pops of color in the skein. Assigned color pooling is another way this type of coloring is described.

Or Approximately 94 (135, 150, 167, 207) yds / 86 (124, 138, 153, 190) m of worsted weight yarn.

Recommended Needles: US 6 (4 mm) and US 7 (4.5 mm), or size required to obtain gauge, preferred method for working with small circumferences: 16 in. circulars, double-point, or magic loop.

Notions: cable needle, tapestry needle, optional stitch markers.

Gauge: 24 sts by 28 rounds equals 4x4 in. / 10x10 cm in 2x2 rib on smaller needles, in the round, after blocking.

Notes:
• This pattern is written more as a formula as the only fully written instructions involve the basic construction: cast on, ribbing, and decrease.
• It is important to choose a yarn colorway that has distinguished pops of color compared to the main color of the skein. These color changes determine when you change the stitch pattern.

This pattern has been tech edited and test knit.
