The Lindal Skjørt is part of my Lindal Collection of designs focusing on short-row knitting techniques and highlighting the way color uniquely pools within the shapes of the design, which is well suited to self-striping and gradient yarns.

This pattern has been a labor of love over several months of a very intense design process. The culmination of these efforts is a 26-page pattern that includes a four page introduction with a step-by-step tutorial for creating a personalized design. A fellow Raveler referred to my designs as a “Create-Your-Own-Adventure” novel, similar to the ones we had in childhood. I think this description is particularly fitting for this design as there are so many options for really making this skirt unique to you. With 290 possible skirt specifications and even more combinations that can be created by adding and subtracting panels, there should be a perfect fit for every body type, regardless of height, weight, or age.

Please note that the entire pattern does not need to be printed if you are able to read it first online. Once you have identified the skirt that will be the perfect fit for your body type, you would only need to print the pages specific to that option.

Sizing: This skirt is knit sideways in panel units allowing for a lot of flexibility in sizing. Each panel is outlined based on the width at the waistband/panel unit and length desired. The number of panels will determine the final circumference of the skirt. It is easy to adjust the circumference by simply adding or subtracting a panel unit. This allows for the skirt to fit anyone from a 3T in toddler sizing, to a 6X+ adult.

Length: Information is included to knit this with lengths ranging from - 6” (16cm) - 32” (82cm).

Yardage: Based on Length and Size. Estimates are included in the design.

Fit and Finishing: This can be finished in a number of ways, either using elastic within the waistband, adding buttons, or sewing in a zipper to the side without any additional treatment. This will depend on the optimal fit desired. If fit snug to the waist, you will need to either include a zipper or buttons. If you prefer a little more volume, this can be achieved with additional panel units and a 1” elastic waistband. The knit design itself uses a 1” fold-over stockinette waistband. The entire design is meant to be mostly fitted at the waist and then flare out along the bottom edge.

Edge: The design uses an i-cord edge detail.

Diagrams: Vector diagrams are included in this pattern for shape placement and color planning sheet, as well as visualizing several of the options available.

Yarn: For this design I worked with Spincycle’s very beautiful and deeply moody and somber “Nocturne” fiber, which is a non-superwash 100% merino wool, for the Main Color. They describe the color as “seen through a fog on a full moon night”. The complete color palette can be found here: https://spincycleyarns.com/collections/nocturne

For the contrasting lines, I worked with their “Wilder”, 100% non-superwash American Rambouillet wool. This is available in either a light or dark grey and the lustre of the fiber is exquisite! Available online at https://spincycleyarns.com/collections/wilder

I want to thank everyone at Spincycle for supporting me through this design process and for welcoming my work into their fiber story.
