Shetland Fair Isle knitting meets Swedish Tvåändsstickning
The Norwegian star and OXO patterns are familiar to most Fair Isle knitters. They are however also found in many other traditional knitting techniques and one of them is ”tvåändsstickning”, twined knitting from Dalarna in Sweden. This technique uses two strands of yarn, even in plain knitting. But instead of keeping the two strands side by side as in two-colour knitting such as Fair Isle, the two strands are twisted for every stitch thus making a very strong and tight knit.
