I made this cozy up one year when I needed some quick little gifts for the girls in my life (nieces, daughters of friends). I figured a tube of lip balm or gloss would be more fun if it had a cute little holder to go with it. I had no idea that crafters were creating cozies for everything from acorns to pens to zils (belly dancer finger cymbals). It was only later when searching Ravelry and the web for ideas that I learned that a cozy could be (and probably was) made for every imaginable object.

Gauge is not important as long as you have enough stitches to make a tube that fits snugly but easily around the lip balm tube you have chosen. You can easily add or subtract one or two stitches as necessary to achieve a good fit.

I prefer a steel crochet hook US size 0, 1 or 2.

I made my lip balm cozy with a longish cord. I soon found that every single person who received one immediately tried to wear it as a necklace. I recommend making your cord long enough to accommodate this!

I am still new to writing out patterns so please let me know if there are any questions or problems with this pattern.
