After knitting many little cardigans for new babies in the family, I searched high and low for a simple, quick-knit sweater that allowed for easy access and wriggly baby dressing — similar to a cardigan — without all the back and forth knit and purl rows; I wanted to knit quickly and in the round.

Everything I found just wasn’t quite right, so I started from scratch and created the perfect little jumper that is a great beginner pattern and can be easily adapted and personalised once you have made a few — incorporate colour work, stripes, bobbles… anything!

Features

  • Raglan Sleeve
  • Knitted Top-Down, in the round
  • Buttonholes for easy access
  • Minimal finishing
  • Capable beginner pattern

Sizes

0-3 Months (3-6 Months, 6-12 Months, 12-18 months) with finished measurements of 40.5cm (46cm, 48.5cm, 53.5) approx after blocking.

Yarn Requirements

190m (230m, 265m, 295m) approx fingering weight single ply.

Sample shown in Prosper Yarn, Beaut Merino Singles in the colour Let’s Be Frank. Yarn meterage includes an allowance for a 20cm x 20cm gauge swatch, you should even have plenty left over for matching booties, maybe even a hat from one skein if making one of the smaller sizes.

Needles

3.75mm, 4.00mm, 4.5mm (20cm circular can be used for the body and DPN’s or magic loop for the sleeves)

Notions

4 x 12mm buttons, tapestry needle, stitch markers, waste yarn for sleeves to rest on.
