This little girl’s cape was originally featured in Godey’s Magazine, in 1865. It is knit in a eyelet pattern, and is seamless. A knit border in the garter stitch is then sewn onto the cape, and embroidered with black to create the illusion of ermine fur.

The cape closes with a hook and eye, and is decorated with a bow at the neck. Lining it is optional, the original pattern suggests silk or wool.

Both the historical pattern and my version are available on the link. Notes to adjust sizing are also available.

Happy Knitting,

~ Jamie
