Are you a coffee or tea cup collector like me? I don’t know about you, but I need to constantly keep myself in check or else my mug shelf gets way too crowded. When the Christmas-in-July season came around this year, I was all about getting those cozy feels through sips of tasty, hot drinks (even though it was 100 degrees outside). All the mugs I was drinking out of inspired me to make one that wouldn’t take up shelf space but still gave me those cozy vibes you feel around Christmastime. Meet Hot Choccy - he is a cuddly cup of hot cocoa that won’t make you feel bad about adding to your mug collection!

I designed him as an amigurumi, but when you add a loop to hang from and stitch the year on, he also makes a memorable tree ornament. During the holidays, he will fill you up with warmth with his tiny smile and seasonable peppermint scarf.

Though designed as holiday decor, he could also be worked up as an everyday desk decoration by changing up the colors of the scarf or omitting the marshmallows so he becomes a cup of coffee. It would also be easy to create a cup with vertical stripes of different colors because it is actually worked in rows. There’s lots of room to put your own spin on it or even make a crochet version of a mug you already own!

Hot Choccy’s pattern comes in a 6 page PDF with a materials list, abbreviations key, 23 photos, and detailed instructions for every step. There are video links for how to make a magic circle, do color changes, basic sewing technique, and how to attach the ornament loop.

I can’t wait to see all the different cups of ‘Hot Choccy’ you make!
