This detailed, lace/cabled cowl is knit from the bottom up and measures 15 by 5.5 inches, fitting snugly. The bottom button can be left open, creating a cute split and more coverage below the neck. (It’s perfect for peeking out of a coat.) Or button it up, keeping the warmth above a necklace.

I opted to make mine from a favorite yarn I handspun. This is small enough to showcase yarn you’ve saved for something special; something you have but in small quantity.

Gauge is important in snug items but I give you added tips to help get the fit right. (My neck measures 13 inches. Cowl measures 15, and 0.5- 0.75 is lost in buttoning it.) You should aim for 2 inches bigger than your neck measurement. It will fit snugly with the overlap of the buttonband, but will not be too tight.

Treat yourself to an elegant, couture comfort that you can fit in your purse or pocket for times when you need a little warmth, color, and pampering.
