The Little Knit Fish are tiny sardine-like fish, observed near quiet coastlines. Characteristics include a single tone and two-tone appearance. Often seen taunting and playing with house cats.

The fish are constructed with small amounts of yarn, making them particularly well-suited for stash-busting and using up leftovers from other projects.

Size
The finished fish is approximately 11-12cm / 4.5-4.75” from end to end, and 7.5-8.5cm / 3-3.5” around at the widest point.

Yarn and Yardage
At least 3g of fingering weight sock yarn, or 12 yards. If working a two-tone fish, you’ll need 6 yards of C1 and 6 yards of C2. Sock yarn with nylon is preferred, as it will be more durable.
Black embroidery thread or scraps of black fingering weight yarn is needed for the eyes.

Needles and Gauge
US 1/2.5mm, or size needed to achieve a tight fabric.

Exact gauge isn’t important for this pattern, but the fabric should be tight enough not to show stuffing. I find for most yarn, US 0/2.0mm or US 1/2.25mm is the best choice.

Notions
Knitting needles for knitting flat, darning needle, polyfill for stuffing, and black embroidery thread or scrap pieces of fingering weight yarn for eyes.

Les Petits Poissons Tricotés sont de minuscules poissons ressemblant à des sardines, que l’on observe près des côtes tranquilles. Ils peuvent être monochromes ou bicolores. On les voit souvent taquiner et jouer avec les chats domestiques.

Le poisson est réalisé avec un fil à chaussettes de poids « fingering » et requiert ~12 vg/3 g. Pour un poisson deux couleurs, vous aurez besoin de 6 vg de C1 et 6 vg de C2. Une laine contenant du nylon ou de la soie, ou twistée serrée sera préférable pour la durabilité.

Du fil à broder noir ou des longueurs de laine de poids « fingering » noire sont nécessaires pour les yeux.

Fournitures
Aiguilles à tricoter (tricot à plat), aiguille à laine, deux longueurs de laine de poids « fingering » noire pour les yeux, bourre.

Techniques
Ce patron est tricoté à plat puis assemblé avec le point matelas. C’est une bonne introduction au tricot d’animaux rembourrés.
