Little leaf socks combine stockinette stitch with stranded colourwork sections with a repeated leaf design to keep the knitting interesting. The pattern includes instructions for three sizes:

S: 56st cuff – EU36-38 / UK 3-5 – approx. foot length = 22cm / 8.5 inches
M: 64st cuff – EU39-42 / UK 5.5-7 – approx. foot length = 24cm / 9.5 inches
L: 72st cuff – EU41-44 / UK 7.5-9 – approx. foot length = 27cm / 10.5 inches

Foot length can be adjusted to fit your foot exactly by performing more or fewer rounds of plain stocking stitch before knitting the toe.

(Photos show socks knitted in size M on size EU38 feet.)

The pattern is suitable for bold beginners upwards. Some experience of knitting stranded colourwork would be useful.

Little leaf socks are knit in the round from the top down either using 9 inch circulars, double pointed needles or the magic loop method - whichever you prefer. They feature colourwork sections on the ankle and foot and a heel flap and gusset heel construction.

Needles: 2.25mm 9” circular needles OR 2.25mm larger circular needles for magic loop method OR 2.25mm double pointed needles (or size to meet gauge).

Yarn:
Main colour: approx. 35-55g – 140-220m / 153-241 yards of 4ply sock yarn
Contrast colour 1 (for colourwork): approx. 15-25g – 60-100m / 66-110 yards of 4ply sock yarn
Contrast colour 2 (for cuff, heel & toe): approx. 13-18g – 52-72m / 57-79 yards of 4ply sock yarn
NOTE: Exact yarn requirements will depend on the size knitted and your tension. If you plan to increase the foot length you will also need more main colour yarn.
Sample socks shown are knitted using Scheepjes Metropolis in shade 054 Johannesburg for the main colour, Scheepjes Metropolis in shade 024, Cota for contrast colour 1 and Fyberspates CoopKnits Socks Yeah! In shade 127, Actinolite for contrast colour 2.

Notions: scissors, 2x stitch markers (one different to mark beginning of round), tapestry needle, tape measure

Tension: 29 stitches and 48 rows for a 10x10cm square in stocking stitch.
