I have now updated this design to increase the range of sizes and also to change how the neck shaping is worked to make it all more streamlined!

If you purchase both this pattern and the NOT SO LITTLE NUGGET sweater together you will automatically get 25% off the total cost (this will apply to past purchases)

The Neck shaping includes working German Short Rows to make the back of the sweater sit higher on the neck than the front, this makes it more comfortable when worn.

I have always had it in my mind that I wanted to design a super simple baby sweater and ever since finding out I was pregnant with our first little nugget I was desperate to get one started. It took some time before I finally got round to it and even longer before I managed to get the pattern written up but now it is ready and I am so happy with how this design has turned out. It’s a simple top down raglan sweater with a slightly lower neckline at the front compared to the back making it more comfortable to wear. The little button closure on the neckline is there to help make the sweater easier to pull over a little ones head. Additionally, there are guidelines in the pattern on how to add a stitch pattern to the body section to allow for the ultimate customization of this design for your favourite little person.

What you will need:

Yarn - 330-1100m of Fingering weight yarn (100-300g), Yarn used in the Sample is by Dyed In the Wool in the Fancy Sock base in a set of five 50gm Skeins.

Needles – 3.75mm (US5) and 3.25mm (US3) 16 inch (40cm) for the larger 3 sizes you may also wish to have 24 inch (60cm) length needles to work the body circulars for body and longer cables for magic loop on the sleeves or DPN’s in both needle sizes.

Notions

  • Stitch markers,
  • Beginning of Round Marker (different from the rest),
  • Scrap yarn (or stitch holders),
  • Tapestry Needle,

Gauge – 24 sts and 32 rows in 4 inches / 10 cm, in stockinette after blocking.

Sizes – The pattern includes 8 child sizes ranging from 0-6 months up to 8-10 years. The sweater is intended to be worn with about 2 inches of positive ease so pick a size with this in mind. As children tend to grow quite quickly I have added extra length into the pattern for the sleeves and body as standard, but this can be easily adjusted to suit your preference. I suggest you go through the pattern and highlight the numbers relevant to the size you are choosing to knit to avoid confusion when working through the pattern. (Sample in pattern is shown in the 2-4yr size on a 2yr old).
