The sample size 42 rounds (including border) = 30 in (75 cm) square (before blocking). You can make a blanket bigger by adding the repeated rounds at the end.

You can use any yarn & hook you like that suits your project.

26th March, 2019 added new extended variation of the pattern. Now you can crochet as big square as you want by continuing the pattern, not just plain rounds.
Extended variation No.2 (added 26/03/2019) (continuing repeating the pattern not plain rounds)
Round 38 - repeat Round 18, just in the corner spaces make 3dc, ch2, 3dc (instead of 2dc, ch2, 2dc in the corner and 1 dc in ch1 space that we had after and before corner pop on Round 18).
Round 39 - repeat Round 19.
Round 40 - repeat Round 20.
Round 41 - repeat Round 21.
The next set of Rounds will be 42-45. On Round 42 we reduce amount of shells (-1 on each side of the square) as we did on Round 22. Continue the logic of the pattern till you are happy about the size of your blanket.
