This is an overlay mosaic crochet pattern with charts and written directions. There are some diagonal stitches in this design, but I have a video tutorial linked in pattern that shows you how easy it is to do!

My lavender and white blanket measures 46”x46” with 4.5mm hook, Ren’s blue and white fuzzy yarn test measures 36”x37” with 4mm hook (she did a bit of tapestry for the hearts too!), and Grace’s cream and tan measures 45”x45” with 4.5mm hook and adding an envelope boder. All three of us used 4/worsted weight yarn---about 1200 yards of each color (so 2400 in total).
