Longmile

A cropped sweater with strong geometric colourwork.*

Incorporates set-in sleeves (rather than a yolk); and a geometric (rather than floral) pattern to give a more structured and less folky look than many fairisle sweaters. Knitted in simple 8 ply it is quick to make and really affordable. Would also be great in tweed. Awesome for layering.

Yarn
8 ply / DK / Light Worsted, 100% wool, 100-140m (110-150 yards) per 50g. A tight, compact yarn is best and swatching is recommended to ensure the yarn is not too bulky for colourwork.

Approximate number 50g skeins:
Colour A (main colour): 8 (Size S), 9 (Size M), 11 (Size L).
Colour B: 1
Colour C: small amount

Needles

  • Straight gauge-size needles (achieved with 4mm (US6))
  • Straight below-gauge-size needles for ribbing (3.5mm (US4))
  • Round below-gauge-size needle for neck ribbing (3.5mm (US4)).

Gauge
22 sts and 30 rows to 10cm / 4in over stockinette.

Sizing
Finished measurement at bust: 81-86cm (Size S), 91-97cm (Size M), 102-107cm (Size L).
Back finished length:45cm (Size S), 46cm (Size M), 48cm (Size L)

Pattern notes

The sweater is knitted from the bottom up in pieces and joined with blanket stitch. It is worked straight to the underarms (length can be added , if required).
A chart is provided for the stranded colourwork. All but two rows of the chart have only two stranded colours.
