Enjoy some fresh stitches when the cold weather hits in Lookout Headband. Purposefully designed to withstand the elements while you enjoy the cold weather scenery, these customizable headbands are knit with the double layer knitting technique while mixing fibers and fiber weights. A luxuriously soft and extra warm inner layer of fingering weight yarn looks out through simple lace in worsted weight. For those less than rigid climes go for the “Southerner” and for arctic blasts, knit the “Northerner.”

The tech edited and test knit intermediate level pattern is fully written with the lace both written and charted. Several how-to videos accompany the pattern.

Blocked Gauge:
16 sts and 24 rnds over 4”/ 10cm in Stockinette holding MCAC.

Special Notes:
Cable It: for rearranging sts, a cable needle or spare DPN might come in handy.
Construct It: worked top down, if working the optional Short Rows, or either bottom up or top down if not. Lookout Headband begins with twisted rib, transitions to DLK Lace, and ends with twisted Rib.
Mark It: you may wish to use additional markers to demark the DLK Lace section from the MCAC sections. Slip markers as you come to them.
Size It: I never understood living in NC why headbands were so wide. When I moved to Maine, I discovered the reason! Work “Southerner” for a narrow headband great for warmer cold days and work “Northerner” for a wide headband great for arctic blasts. If customizing the depth, work until 1”/ cm less than total desired depth, ending at the end of an even numbered rnd.
Work It: the double layer knitting technique used is similar to double knitting, but there are no purls. Be sure not to cross your yarns. To work DLK in StSt - when you come to AC st(s), move MC forward, work the AC st(s), move MC yarn backward and work the MC st(s). Move MC backwards prior to working the first MCAC st after finishing a DLK st section.
Weave It In: if you add another ball of MC yarn, be sure to weave in your ends before rejoining MC and AC on the same needle. After rejoining, the space between the layers is no longer accessible.
