With this design I wanted to show the unique characteristics of the Icelandic unspun lopi wool. Full of air, the lopi will adapt itself to the needles used and always look good: knit it tight and it will stay that way, knit it loose and it will bloom, filling in the gaps.
The three sweaters shown may seem identical at first glance (except for the sleeves) and are all knitted at the same gauge with the same size needle; however, they are very different to the touch and in weight.

• The green sweater is knitted with my favorite blend of 1 strand of plötulopi held together with 1 strand of Love story (the equivalent of a DK yarn but it will bloom magically). It is the softest one thanks to the lambswool in the Love Story and it is light as a feather.

• The rusty one is knitted with Léttlopi (you can also use 2 strands of plötulopi held together): it is almost twice as heavy as the first, but still knitted rather loosely for an Aran weight yarn and has a very nice drape.

• The black one is knitted with Álafosslopi: it is the heaviest of the three, four times the weight of the first and twice the weight of the second. It will make a perfect layer for the outdoors, much like a coat.

The sweater has a longer back hem to cover the behind. It is knitted in the round from the bottom up. Stitches are provisionally cast on for the shoulders and the yoke knitted in the round with short rows at the back of the neck, integrated into the motif. The sleeves are knitted from the top down, a construction inspired by old Icelandic costumes from the 18th century. There are three sleeve options: plain tapered long sleeves or straight sleeves with an allover motif, either short or long.

Fit: 15-20 cm / 6-8” of positive ease around the chest and 10-15 cm / 4-6” of positive ease around the biceps.
Choose your size: add the ease to your chest measurement/largest part of your torso and choose the size closest to the result. Compare to the other measurements. If in between sizes, choose the larger one.

Gauge: 10 cm / 4” = 13 sts and 19 rnds in Stocking stitch on 7 mm / US 11 needle.

Needles: 6 mm and 7 mm / US 10 and 10.75 circular needles approx. 80 cm / 32” long. Magic loop is used for smaller diameters, but you can also use double pointed needles.

Wool
There are 3 options, from the lightest to the heaviest but all are knitted with the same size needle at the same gauge.
