Lotus Mandala is a striped semicircular shawl overlaid with a double cable motif radiating into a star or flower shape from a central point.

The design is inspired by the elegant curves of the lotus, which grow in the muddiest waters yet create a magnificent flower, and are thus rich in symbolism.

This lotus is made of a series of wedges which widen every other stripe, and transitions into a unique slipped stitch striped lace mesh, echoing the seed pod that follows the lotus bloom.

The pattern also includes a swatch on the last page, useful for trialing colour combinations and becoming familiar with the techniques.

  • The size of the shawl is adaptable, both the texture stitch and the lace sections can be worked to any size.

  • Suits fingering to sport weight yarn in yardage between approx 700m and 900m.

  • The design is charted only, with written notes.
