A well loved teddy - bear, dog or cat,
Patched up with this and mended with that.

More than an object or passing trend,
More like a loved one, companion and friend.

Soaked up tears of yours or those you’ve adored,
Been dragged through puddles and half shut in doors.

Mended with love, fabric and time,
Worthless to others, irreplaceably mine.

About the Socks

These socks are lovingly covered in different patches just like our poem. The pattern contains three sizes, small, medium, and large. These socks are knit top down with a slip stitch heel flap and a gusset construction. There’s enough detail and variation in the pattern to keep the knitting interesting, but nothing that should be too tricky for a new sock knitter to master. This whimsical design would look beautiful in almost any yarn, perhaps you could raid your scrap basket for the perfect shades to represent your well loved cuddly companion.

Sizes

S (M, L) the sizes are measured on leg and foot circumference as the length of the foot is adjustable

Finished Measurements

Leg length 15cm / 6” from the cuff to the start of the heel

Leg and foot circumference 15cm / 6” (18cm / 7”, 20cm / 8”)

Gauge

36 sts and 48 rows per 10 cm / 4” in stocking stitch

Yarn

You will need five 20g mini skeins of fingering weight yarn - I used a mini skein set from Hedgerow Yarns called the Patchwork Pocket set.

Please be aware that unless you match my gauge you may need slightly more yarn for colour C or it might be a good idea to work your heel flap and heel turn in another of the colours. Colour E works really well as the heel flap and heel turn.

Needles

A set of 2.25mm needles for knitting a small circumference in the round or size needed to obtain gauge.

Notions

Stitch markers - different coloured ones may help

Darning needle to sew in your ends
