A generous gesture - of selfless sharing,
Reaching out and kindly caring.

In giving we gain - as our gift helps them glow,
Bringing joy to another - is how our hearts grow.

The Violet’s Angel Costume socks feature a pretty folded cuff worked in a simple lacy pattern inspired by the feathered wings of Violet’s costume in the Christmas at Ivy Cottage from the beloved Biscuit, Buttons and Pickles series of books by E. J. Taylor from my childhood. The folded feather cuff hides a practical rib for a comfy fit, and flows into a delicately textured sock, sparkling like the stars on Violet’s dress which she kindly lends to Annie when she is chosen for the role of the angel in the Fern Hill School Christmas play. They are knitted cuff down and finished with an eye of partridge heel flap and a rounded wedge toe.

Sizes

S (M, L) the sizes are measured on leg and foot circumference, as the length of the foot is adjustable

Finished Measurements

Leg length 7cm / 3” from the cuff to the start of the heel

Leg and foot circumference 15cm / 6” (18cm / 7”, 20cm / 8”)

Gauge

36 sts and 48 rows per 4 inches/10 centimetres in stocking stitch using 2.25mm needle.

Yarn

You will need approximately 50g (60g,70g) of fingering weight yarn in your main colour - I used Beehive Yarns in Nacre on the Barbarella (sparkle) base
10g (12g, 14g) of fingering weight yarn for CC1 - I usedBeehive Yarns in Crema on the Audrey base.

Needles

A set of 2.25mm needles for knitting a small circumference in the round or size needed to obtain gauge and a set of 2.5mm needles for knitting a small circumference in the round or one size larger than your gauge needle.

For a comfy sock the cuff needs to be worked at a slightly larger gauge so I would recommend using a needle one size larger for that section. I would also advise working your cast on as loosely as you can while keeping the stitches neat.

Notions

Stitch markers - different coloured ones may help
Darning needle to sew in your ends
