Lovingkindness, or Metta, is a Buddhist practice that encourages us to cultivate a friendly heart towards ourselves and others. In these troubled times, a touch of friendliness can go a long way toward making our challenges more bearable. What better way to remind yourself to be kind and brighten someone’s day than wearing the sentiment on your sleeve (or in this case, neck?)

This stranded cowl is suitable for intermediate knitters, as it does present long floats on 4 of its 61 rounds. It is knit bottom-up in the round. Any fingering weight yarn can be used.

Techniques:
Corrugated ribbing in the round
Two-color stranded knitting in the round

Materials Needed:
Yarn:
Uses 230 yards of background and 125 yards of motif colors in fingering weight yarn. Sample knit using Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light in colorways Copper Pink | Solid and Coffee Grounds.
Needles:
Size 4 US/ 3.5 mm 24” (61 cm) circular needle (or size needed to achieve gauge)
Notions:
Stitch markers (at least one for marking beginning of round and more if desired to mark pattern repeats)
Tapestry needle

Measurements:
Gauge: 27 sts and 29 rounds equals 4”/ 10 cm in stranded knitting after light blocking.
Finished Size:
Circumference: 28” (71 cm) Height: 12.5” (32 cm)
