This 12” x 16” (30 cm x 40 cm) pillow evokes a weathered Union Jack from the US War of Independence era. It is knit with double strands of worsted weight yarn from Topsy Farms -- a yarn producer local to Loyalist Township just West of Kingston Ontario, so named for the United Empire Loyalists who settled there. Nine different colours are used:

  1. White Natural
  2. Royal Blue
  3. Red
  4. Light Grey
  5. Blue Tweed
  6. Blue Heather
  7. Navy Blue
  8. Burgundy
  9. Pink Tweed

And if you’re willing to switch the main colours with the secondary ones, you should have no trouble getting a second pillow out of those 9 skeins.

3.5 mm needles, either circular or straight.

Gauge: 10 cm (4”) square swatch of 20 stitches and 22 rows measured over PATTERNED stockinette stitch with DOUBLED yarn.

For finishing the pillow, you’ll also need:

  • Piece of fabric of your choice the same size as the finished knitting Plus approximately 1” (2 cm) all round for seam allowance.
  • A zipper the same length or width of the pillow (optional)
  • Matching sewing thread. 16” x 12” pillow form.
