This is an original crochet hamsa pattern. When worked up with DK yarn and a 3.75mm hook, the finished piece measures 8x7 inches. This pattern can be easily modified to be bigger or smaller depending on the yarn and hook you choose. Two appliques sewn together would make a beautiful and unique crochet purse.
The Hamsa is also variously known as the Hand of Fatima after the daughter of Muhammad, the Hand of Mary, the Hand of Miriam, and the Hand of the Goddess. It’s a symbol that is recognized by numerous cultures and generally used for protection, luck, health and good fortune.
