This sock pattern was inspired by my favourite late Summer flower, the sunflower. Appearing in August, it has been said if you pick a sunflower at sunset it will bring you good luck the next day. Maybe this luck occurs when wearing a pair of hand knitted sunflower socks too…

These socks are knit from the cuff down with a 1 x 1 ribbed cuff, an eye of partridge heel-flap and gusset (alternative heels can be substituted) and have a section of colourwork on the leg and a section before the toe decreases. This pattern uses the magic loop circular needle method (but can be easily knit with dpns).

This pattern has step by step English instructions with charts for the colourwork sections.

There are two different stitch counts for the colourwork section on the leg. One for a small-medium size and one for large (or for high heel arches). The needle size is also chosen according to the size required and gauge for the colourwork section. Foot length is easily adjustable.

Yarn required:
Sample shown is knit in Size M for foot length Europe 39, US 8, UK 6 using:

  • Main Colour: Schachenmayr Regia Premium Merino Yak in Gold Meliert 07504 approx 70g, 280m or 306yds
  • Contrast Colour 1 (for flower): Regia Premium Merino Yak in Anthrazit meliert 07512 approx 15g, 60m or 65yds
  • Contrast Colour 2 (for leaves): Yarnloveyarn in Cinderella, colourway Connifer approx. 5g, 20m or 21yds.
