Lucy is a classic, simple to knit hat with a relaxed, slouchy fit. It’s worked seamlessly from the bottom-up on double pointed needles, then topped with a pompom. Pattern includes schematic with measurements of finished hat.

Designed to fit 18” (46cm) dolls with a head circumference of approx. 12 1/4” (31cm), such as American Girl, Australian Girl, Gotz, Maplelea Girl and similar dolls. In addition, according to the Craft Yarn Council’s standard head sizes page, preemie babies have the same head size as an American Girl doll, so you could use this (and other AG doll patterns) for that purpose.

The difficulty level of this pattern is: Easy - requires a knowledge of (or willingness to learn) basic knitting skills, increasing, decreasing, and working in the round on DPNs.

What you will need in order to knit this pattern:
Yarn ………………………….
• 1 ball of Rowan Wool Cotton – 50% Merino wool, 50% Cotton (123 yds/113 m per 50g ball) DK weight; Samples shown in colors “911 Rich” & “951 Tender”. If substituting yarn, you’ll need only approx. 75 yds/69 m.

Needles ……………………..
• Set of 4 or 5 DPNs in US size 4 (3.50mm) for body of hat, and US size 3 (3.25mm) for ribbed edging.

Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
