LUDOVIKA balaclava
This balaclava is a modern reinterpretation of the strong optical effect from my LUKREZIA medieval hood design, translated into something practical, wearable, and suited for urban winter life.
Designed to keep you warm without bulk, the balaclava fits close to the head and hugs the neck. It works especially well for windy days, biking, and low-effort winter dressing where bulky scarves or loose balaclavas tend to fail.
The pattern is worked flat in one piece and finished without seams. You can choose between three closure options to adjust fit and style: sewing the neck opening closed, adding two buttons, or using a drawstring.
The design includes three seamless color patterns:
stripes
polka dots
checkers
Warped granny stitches are my variation of the classic granny stitch. In this pattern, they create a subtle optical illusion that visually shrinks and magnifies areas without adding extra thickness.
Bonus
This pattern includes the LOLA Handwarmers as a bonus. I used and extended my gauge swatch to make a pair of chic handwarmers. They pair well with this balaclava and many of my other designs, and are also available as a standalone free pattern.
