The name is incongrous since it’s clearly not Luke in the picture. Whilst on holiday with dear friends their middle son Luke asked me to knit him the perfect poncho. His favourite colours are green and orange, which freaked me out, but with the collection of odds and ends I happened to have in my knitting bag this poncho was born and I’ve grown to love it. Figuring out a way to put the stripes together so that I could enjoy what I was knitting was challenging and fun, and I’m a little sad that I’ll be sending it off to Luke tomorrow. I hope he loves it as much as I do!

This is an easy knit and a great project for a beginner as the whole piece is knitted in garter stitch. It was designed for a 10 year old, but as you can see from the picture it’s a reasonable fit for an adult, and easy to size up by increasing the cast on and knitting it longer.

Sizing:
I have no idea how to measure the size as you would wear it, but it’s a rectangle of knitting measuring ~86cm long, 48cm wide

Materials:
The poncho is knitted in our cowgirlblues Merino Sock yarn (It’s called Merino Twist if you buy it in Europe)
2 x 50g Silver Fox (E)
50g each of Airforce (A), Emerald (B), Rainforest (C), Sage(F)
Mini balls of Lipstick (D), Blueberry (G), Iced Berry (H), Coral (I), Cobalt (J)
3.25mm knitting needles

Gauge:
10x10cm = 26st and 52 rows in garter stitch
