Size: Using the recommended yarn weight and hook size your butterfly will be about 12.5cm/5” wide and 7cm/3” long (excluding tails).

Construction: The moth is crocheted in 5 pieces. The veins and markings on the wings are embroidered. The wings are sewn on the body. The legs and antennae are made out of craft wire.

This downloadable pdf pattern has detailed step-by-step instructions accompanied by many photos of the process.
The pattern includes photo tutorials on how to make a magic ring, invisible decreases in single crochet, colour changes in single crochet and closing small rounds.

Required materials and tools:

  • DK/light worsted weight cotton yarn in light green, beige and purple I used Paintbox Yarns Cotton DK in Spearmint Green (426), Banana Cream (421), and Pansy Purple (448)
    • Fluffy yarn in white I used Sirdar Snuggly Snowflake DK in Milky
    • Small amount of DK/light worsted or 4-Ply/Sports yarn in orange or yellow
    • 3.5mm crochet hook / Size E
    • 2.5mm crochet hook / Size B-1 or C-2 depending on how tightly you crochet
    • Beige, purple and black embroidery floss
    • Stitch marker
    • Yarn needle
    • Large-eyed sewing needle
    • Scissors
    • Craft wire
    • Superglue
    • Small flat pliers (optional)
