In 1978, I received a bell ornament in a gift exchange my freshman year at Western Kentucky University. I used that bell as inspiration for this crocheted design.

This is a three-dimensional bell ornament made from worsted weight scraps of yarn. You’ll also need two medium jingle bells, or two pom poms for the inside of the bell.

Our cat, Lydia, loved this ornament; she would snatch it from our Christmas tree everyday and hide it somewhere in the house, usually under a bed. It became a yearly tradition to hang the ornament low on the branches even after Lydia was no longer with us. This ornament is now being enjoyed by a new generation of kitties…my daughter’s cat named Harley, who serves as model for this pattern.

Please enjoy “Lydia’s Bells.”
