The Maayan set is a stranded colorwork project that includes a hat and a matching cowl, both worked in the round. The motif was designed to suggest the rhythm of waves without depicting them directly. The colors in the original sample were inspired by winter light on the Mediterranean Sea and the changing tones of the sky and horizon.

The project was designed with learning in mind. The colorwork motif allows knitters to practice long floats, color dominance, and consistent yarn management, while still following the traditional rule of working with two colors per round.

Both pieces use the same motif and are constructed in a similar way: a twisted rib edge, followed by stranded colorwork worked from a chart. The hat is finished with crown decreases, while the cowl repeats the motif in a continuous tube.
