This design was inspired by the summery, linen blend yarn from
Zakami. Merrian wanted to make a vest top that could be worn next to the skin, so she created an all over stitch pattern with a three-petal element to mimic a coastal meadow full of flowers.

This close-fitting vest top is crocheted top down. The front and back are first worked flat separately, then joined at the underarms, then the body is worked in the round (turning at the end of each round to continue working on RS & WS) to the hem.

The top can be worn with either the scooped neck or the higher neckline at the front.

There is optional waist shaping, and the top finishes at the hip with a decorative scalloped hem, which mimics the three petal flowers in the main stitch repeat. The neckband and armbands are trimmed with a very pretty and delicate picot stitch, which also serves to add stability and prevents overstretching of the fabric.
