I designed and made this scarf for my daughter Mackenzie’s 19th birthday. I wanted a scarf that, like Mackenzie, is beautiful, soft, and feminine yet surprisingly tough. I chose a yarn that looks like angel wings on the outside (mohair) but has a core of steel (silk) that shines through.

This Shibui Silk Cloud is an amazing yarn; it’s smooth and so light that it nearly floats around in the air but it’s also very manageable and best of all it does not itch!

I wanted Mackenzie’s scarf to have lots of sparkle that you can only see if you look closely enough, not an attention-seeker. A scarf with few words except at just the right time and then with a sparkly sense of humor sprinkled in. I wanted it to be versatile and many-faceted, with transitions in soft, subtly blended colors in all but one area where it suddenly grabs you with its intensity and leaves you feeling utterly impressed with its dedication, depth and tenacity. That’s my Mackenzie and here is her scarf. I hope you enjoy it!
