This pattern is available for free.

This is a free pattern for a fair-isle beanie of a gnome design. Instead of a ribbed bottom, a braid is crocheted on after knitting the hat. This braid tends to roll up a little, but it’s part of the modern flair of the design.

This pattern is recommended for knitters who have done color stranding and have used a crochet hook at least once before.

This hat is designed to fit people with an adult-sized head.

The suggested yarn for this hat is Drops Karisma and Drops Lima. The color ways used in the sample are Karisma Dark Grey (A), Karisma Red (B), Lima Grey Blue (C), Lima Green (D), Karisma Light Grey (E), and Karisma White (F). Allow one skein for color A, half a skein for color B, and skein dregs (less than 10 yards) for colors C, D, E, and F.

You can access a free PDF of the pattern here, and view more information and pictures here.
