If you were ever going to knit a blanket from stash yarn - now is the time!

I created this project as the ultimate stashbuster. I was knitting my first mosaic project, and I thought, “This texture would make such a great, squishy, cozy blanket.” Then I thought of making each strand in my mosaic patterns a separate fade through many colors. I obviously LOVE lots of colors and I LOVE using up yarn to the last inch. This project was a joy to knit, and I knit it surprisingly fast because I always wanted to get to the next color or the next stitch pattern.

This is more of a recipe than a specific pattern. I’ve included all the details I can about how I knit my blanket, but also suggestions for making the project your own. I have also assumed you know the basics of mosaic knitting. If you don’t, there are plenty of tutorials online. It is a magical technique to learn - beautiful two-color knitting while knitting each row with one color!

Yarn Details
You will need about 4,000 yards of worsted weight yarn. The pattern is easily adapted to other weights, but that will affect yardage, size, and cast-on number. Gauge is not important to this project, but will affect yardage and size.

Thank you so much to all the kind commenters and to everyone who has enjoyed my pattern over the last couple of days! I have to add a shout-out to all the wonderful ladies at the Harriet & Alice knitting retreat in Northern WI last fall, who encouraged me to write up this pattern, and to Kate of Harriet and Alice who helped me figure out how to do so.
