Celebrate the mysteries of the universe with this fun colorwork sock featuring a crescent moon in a star-studded sky. This sock is constructed from the toe-up with a forethought heel and a stretchy bind off. Customize the length to make a perfect fitting ankle or mid-length sock!

MATERIALS

  • Wool/nylon blend fingering weight sock yarn
  • Contrasting scrap yarn for forethought heel
  • Size 1 double pointed needles for toe-up cast on
  • Size 1 circular needles
  • Size 2 or 3 circular needles for colorwork. Choose the needle size which will best meet gauge. (I sized up to size 3, but am generally a tight knitter. If you are a looser knitter size 2 may be a better fit).
  • Stitch markers (1 BOR, 3 contrasting)
  • Tapestry needle

GAUGE
8sts/8rows = 1 inch in the round on size 2/3 circular needles

YARDAGE
The exact yardage required is dependent on sole size and sock length. The following yardage estimates are taken from socks created for a US size 7 shoe:

  • Color A: 140yds/128m for ankle length, 180yds/165m for mid length
  • Color B: 40yds/36m for ankle length, 60yds/54m for mid length
