A magical hat that changes sizes from baby to adult and yarns from dk to bulky! Cables keep the knit interesting and snug (and magically helps it grow with quickly growing heads!), while the fun silhouette adds the extra bit of whimsy that every self-respecting gnome deserves.

Difficulty: Medium
Yarn: Sirdar Click - DK (50g, 150 meters), Chunky (50g, 74 meters)
Amount Needed: 1 (2, 2, 3) skeins
Needles: 3.25 mm (3US) dpns, 4.5mm (7US) dpns
Gauge: DK - 14 sts and 20 rows per 4cm over cable pattern with 3.25mm (3US) dpns, Chunky – 9 sts and 10 rows per 4cm over cable pattern with 4.5mm (7US) dpns
Notions: Yarn needle, scissors, pompom maker (optional)

Notes: This pattern is written for four sizes (small baby, baby, child, and adult). Small baby and child use the dk weight of yarn, baby and adult use the Chunky weight of yarn. The hat is knit top down, ear flaps are added, and the edges are finished off with an applied i-cord edging.

Size notes:
Small Baby (0-6 months), Baby (6 months – 2 years), Child (2 years – 16 years), Adult (16 years +). The cables on this hat make it very stretchy. The hat pictured on my 8 month old daughter will fit on my head as well, but the adult size is a lot more comfortable! If you have a small adult head or like snug hats, you could fit the child quite easily. If you have a large head, or like looser hats, knit the adult size.
