Inspired by the folding dancing fans fashioned during the Ming Dynasty in China. The Chinese fans started with a simple use, blocking the sun and later, for decorations for women and scholars as well as a stage prop in Ping Tan, dancing, opera, Quyi and as a tiě shān, or iron fighting fan. Fans often symbolize friendship, respect and good wishes in Chinese society and are given as gifts and used in weddings.
