The Maiah cardigan is worked back and forth, on straight needles, all in one piece in garter stitch. It is worked from the bottom of the back upwards, over the shoulders and down the front. Short rows are worked in the back to make it slightly longer than the front. The sleeves are worked by casting on stitches on either side of the body. The cardigan is then finished by sewing the sides and underarms together in only one seam each. The hood (optional) is attached by picking up stitches and the cardigan is buttoned on either side. The sleeves are extra long so they can be rolled up, which means that this cardigan will grow with the child.
